The Match
This is Scotland's third and final group-stage fixture at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a fitting climax to the group and a rematch of one of Scottish football's most cherished nights. On 10 June 1998, at the Stade de France in Paris, Scotland faced Brazil in the opening game of the World Cup. Brazil won 2â1, but not before John Collins equalised from the penalty spot and Tom Boyd's unfortunate own goal broke Scottish hearts. Scotland were eliminated in the first round in 1998, but on goal difference, technically without ever losing a game to a non-Brazilian opponent. This remains one of the great World Cup openers, and the memory has never faded north of the border. Nearly three decades on, Scotland are back on the biggest stage, and Brazil are once again standing in their way.
No Scotland No Party
Scotland's travelling support, the Tartan Army, is one of football's great institutions. They have been voted among the best-behaved supporters at multiple major tournaments, a feat made all the more remarkable by the scorelines they are often asked to endure.
No Scotland No Party. When the Tartan Army arrives, the party has started. This anthem has been sung in Paris, Seville, Amsterdam, and now, apparently, Edinburgh at 23:00 on a Wednesday during a quantum error correction workshop.
Realistic Expectations
Let's be honest. Scotland are the underdogs. Brazil have won the World Cup five times. Scotland are yet to win it once, but this is the year this will change. The bookmakers are not convinced. We are unconvinced by the bookmakers.
Whether Scotland progress or go home on goal difference (again), we will be watching together, and that is the point. Some experiences are best shared, and this, for better or worse, is one of them. Come along for discussions about Magic State Cultivation whilst watching sporting greatness unfold.
