The PrefixQEC series

Previous Events

SteelQEC is the second workshop in the PrefixQEC series on quantum error correction.

About PrefixQEC

PrefixQEC is a series of workshops on quantum error correction. Each edition is named for the city that hosts it, with a local prefix in front of “QEC”: TartanQEC in Edinburgh, and now SteelQEC in Sheffield, the Steel City.

The workshops focus on practical routes to useful quantum error correction: approaches that connect directly to hardware constraints and near-term design decisions, alongside benchmarking, resource estimation and the other practical questions that come with building fault-tolerant quantum computers. Each brings researchers from universities and industry together for three days of talks, posters and discussion.

Advancing Methods for Practical Quantum Error Correction

The first PrefixQEC workshop was held at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, co-organised by the University of Edinburgh and the University of Strathclyde as part of Quantum Fringe 2026. The programme included a keynote by Andreas Wallraff (ETH Zurich), a tutorial from Riverlane, 26 talks and a poster session.
